This year marks the 75th anniversary
of Educational Employees Credit Union
(EECU). EECU was founded on April
21, 1934 as one of California's first
credit unions. EECU serves school
employees, students, parents of students,
members of school organizations, and
their families all over the valley.
Established in 1934 as the Fresno
Teachers Credit Union with an initial
investment of $200, EECU’s success
is due in part to its dedication to
its primary mission: “to achieve
unrivaled member satisfaction by understanding
our members’ financial needs
and providing quality financial products
and services.” In 1981, the
organization’s name was changed
to Educational Employees Credit Union
to better portray its relationship
to its members and to the growing
region it represents.
Today EECU is the 68th-largest credit
union in the United States, with assets
over $1.7 billion and serving over
167,000 members. It also holds the
distinct honor of being one of the
largest financial institutions based
in the Central San Joaquin Valley
and is ranked 16th out of 500 credit
unions in the state. Offering a full
line of financial services to its
members, EECU upholds a strong history
of stability and continues to work
toward a bright future.
EECU is a full service retail financial
institution. Checking accounts are
free and dividends are paid when balances
are over $500. Share savings accounts,
certificate accounts and Individual
Retirement Accounts have some of the
best rates available. Credit cards
and loans are available for almost
any purpose, also with some of the
best rates around.
Accounts are easy to access through
any of EECU's 13 central valley branches,
OptionTeller ATMs, 25,000 Co-Op Network
ATMs (such as 7-11 and Costco), our
free Online Access home banking system,
24-hour toll-free automated Personal
Telephone Access System, or the Member
Service Center.
Though much has changed over the past
75 years, our basic credit union philosophy
and commitment to excellent member
service has remained the same. Stop
by our Merced Branch at 127 W. El
Portal and experience the difference
of good old fashioned service with
a smile.
